Signal detects common DNS providers from the domain’s authoritative nameservers. When the detected provider supports the current automatic setup flow, Setup opens a provider approval process for the required records.

Register the domain

Signal reads authoritative nameservers and displays the detected provider.

Open Records

Select Setup only when the dashboard says automatic setup is available.

Review at the provider

Sign in to the correct provider account and zone. Review every proposed record before approval.

Return to Signal

Wait for public DNS propagation and inspect each record’s verification state.

What automatic setup proves

A completed provider handoff proves that the provider accepted the requested change. It does not prove that the provider published every record, that authoritative DNS is serving the new values, or that cached resolvers have expired. Signal verification remains the final product check.

If setup is not offered

Confirm the displayed provider matches the current authoritative nameservers. Automatic availability can also depend on environment configuration. Copy the type, name, value, priority, and TTL manually when Setup is unavailable.

If provider approval fails

  • Confirm you selected the correct zone.
  • Check whether a record already exists at the requested name.
  • Check whether the provider rejects a CNAME because another record type shares that host.
  • Allow the provider sign-in or approval window through browser blockers.
  • Fall back to manual setup if the proposed change is unclear.
Never approve changes for a similar-looking but different zone. The Signal domain and the provider’s selected zone must describe the same authoritative DNS tree.
